Automotive Panel

On November 12, alongside the Feiplar COMPOSITES & FEIPUR 2008 will be held the Automotive Panel, which will present new technologies and research developed for this industry

One of the issues will be addressed in Automotive Panel is the comparative study between alloys and polymer composites in the auto industry, directed by Luiz Gustavo Franco Pires de Campos, an engineer at General Motors of Brazil (São Caetano do Sul, SP).

Summary of presentation:

The variety of engineering materials changes continuously due to the eternal search for solutions that may lead to lighter weight reduction in vehicles. The new vehicle projects developed, along with the analysis of virtual components, aimed at saving fuel, reducing weight, potential for style, functional design, new effects, reduced maintenance of components and corrosion resistance.

This paper aims to show that the virtual analysis studies, coupled with the correct information of material properties, can assist in the development of components and parts, establishing a correlation with the goals of the automotive industry with its implementation of the part.

It was used in this study, comparing three materials: zinc alloy (Zamak-5), aluminum alloy (AlSi8Cu3Fe) and polyamide (Polyamide 6 with 30% glass fiber), which give us different results in terms of weight, mechanical strength, simplicity of manufacture, cost and visual aspect.

The Feiplar COMPOSITES & FEIPUR 2008 - International Fair and Congress of Composites, Polyurethane and Engineering Plastics will take place from 11 to 13 November 2008 in the Red Pavilion of Expo Center Norte in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The exhibition of products from over 200 companies will be held from 13h to 21h. The conferences and industry panels will be presented from 8h to 18h. Admission is free for both exposure and for conferences and panels.

Parallel to Feiplar COMPOSITES & FEIPUR 2008 will see 11 Sector Panels, which are intended to present the latest polyurethane, composites and engineering plastics for various industrial sectors. One of these panels will be directed to the automotive industry, with innovations in terms of raw materials, equipment and applications. The Automotive Panel take place on November 12 in the morning, and participation is free.
