New Rules For The F1 in 2009

Formula 1 decided to move, worried about the monotony of some races. The 2009 season had the technical regulation of the category was changed completely. Aerodynamics is identified as the main culprit for the disappearance of overtaking, and was the main victim of change. The cars will have more emphasis on the mechanical part, because most of the support was withdrawn.

The relative strengths may be different when you have a radical change in regulation. Clearly, a good team may be essential, but we will have more riders in contention for the championship? Felipe Massa says he has a competitive car for 2009.

In testing in Barcelona, the new streamlined design of cars furor worldwide. BMW Sauber, Williams and Honda have used the information for 2009, with the German team used the front and rear wings at the same time. This led to estrangement between the pilots. Christian Klien, who walked one of the activities, said this was the ugliest car he had ever seen, anyone disagree?

The major changes beyond the visual, is that in 2009 the front wing will be mobile and controlled by an electric motor. Thus, pilots may change the angle of attack according to the point of the track where they are. The spoiler was lowered and extended, stretching the limits of the tires. With the rear wing higher and narrower, as well as changes in the diffuser, which no longer have much importance aerodynamics should make overtaking are facilitated, which is the major factor for the "ugliness" of the car.

With the change in the wings, the intention of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the turbulence caused by the aerodynamics refined is minimized. The intent is that two cars can go back to the curves very close. Appendices placed on the sides and tips of cars by 2008 (horns, Minyas, Dumbo ears and the like) are banned for 2009. The anvil (or shark's tail), a lengthening of the bonnet, no impediments in the new regulation.

System Kinetic Energy Recovery (KERS)

The F1 cars will not only news on the aerodynamics. The System of Kinetic Energy Recovery (KERS - Kinetic Energy Recovery System, its acronym in English) will be introduced in the 2009 season. It consists of two batteries, which store energy generated under braking that will be reused by injecting a few more horsepower engine (a type of push-to-pass).

In early tests with the Kers, the teams were worried. A BMW Sauber mechanic was electrocuted when he touched the car after a few laps on the track. Fortunately, the activities in Barcelona this week, the teams showed that the problem is overcome. Several cars used the scheme, without any shock to the officials of the team.

"When new technologies are introduced, this type of thing can happen. I'm very confident that in future the equipment will be very safe. From what we know about cars, chances are it is safe, and I believe that we will get there" - says Nick Heidfeld, BMW driver.

Slicks

The last change in the rules with respect to the tires. Outside of Formula 1 since the end of 1997 season, the slicks (smooth) back to the category in 2009. The intention is to recover the loss with the greatest aerodynamic grip generated by the new compound, which has been proven during several tests this season.

"I think it will improve overtaking. I liked the car with slick tires, is pleasant, but still not enough to talk about the car next year. I have to work with the team" - Felipe Massa says.

The system continues to use the same tires. The teams continue to need to use two different during the races (prime and option - soft and hard), but the system of differentiation is going to change. Until this year, 2008, was one of the grooves painted white. With the disappearance of them, the softer side of the track will have a rose.
